Rainbow Swim - Press Release Summer 2017
PRESS RELEASE:
Rainbow swimwear is high-quality, totally opaque swimwear that is 15 years in the making! Since the earliest days of Oobi, mamas have been asking Oobi designer, Alexandra Riggs to pleeeeeeease make swimwear.

Fast forward 15 years and designer Alex has created a range of swimwear separates that are in line with Oobi's ethical manufacturing, screen printing and quality requirements.

Oobi Swim had to be SPF rated and until the technology was there to have both SPF and Chlorine Resistant made in a small establishment, I just didn't want to launch a range. But now we have all of the above! Chlorine Resistant, Shoulder Adjusters AND SPF Rated swimwear that's cute, practical and bright.

Oobi release Oobi Swim in two stages. The first collection is Retro Rainbow and the pieces have a deliciously '70s Retro Vibe. We love the bright colours, the clear print, the quality and the swimwear shapes.

I’m so proud to have designed and created a range of swimwear for Oobi. I have been designing for almost 15 years and I can bet you any money that I have been asked (begged) every single year to do Oobi swim.
I knew that it would happen eventually but that it would have to be so amazing that it would not ever disappoint those mamas that have been so patient!
Because I’m an indecisive little puppy, and my heart belongs to both bold prints and vintage florals, I’ve created two ranges that are worlds apart - but still have the same Oobi-licious hand-drawn, screen printed vibe that we’re known so well for. The first release is Retro Rainbow! Celebrate colour and blow away the dark clouds with rainbows - such a happy print!
The other range is our Mermaid Sea range - with ‘Seashell Pink Flowers’ and ‘Mermaid Sea Flowers’ - a pretty, pretty floral range with mix-and-match colours.
So why did it take so long?
Well… First of all, it HAD to be SPF50++
Basically we love in a world with a harsh sun and our kids’ skins are sensitive and precious. The damage that we do now, or the CARE that we take now, could affect them in their adult years.
So sun protection was a huge factor. That’s why there are 2 rash vests, one to go with each range. Not only that, there are swim hats in SPF50++ that are water resistant too.
But just because it’s sun safe doesn’t mean that it’s got to be boring so I’ve made separates and the cutest little bikinis, swimming costumes too!
It also had to be high quality!
I love the quality of the fabric, it’s so generous, you will NEVER see through it, not even when it’s wet. It’s soft and silky, the hand-feel is glossy and so buttery!
So it’s taken a while but I believe the wait is worth it. We’ve tested and tested and tried the pieces, in the ocean, pools, gymnastics too (yeah, it moves well).
